Flemming Rasmussen GRYPHON

Gryphon was started by Flemming E. Rasmussen, after he obtained a degree in graphics arts from the Aarhus Art Academy in Denmark and he had been involved in the local music community as well as employed as a designer for a sportswear company. Mr. Rasmussen first founded 2R Marketing, which was an importer of high end audio products into Denmark, and developed a moving coil preamplifier for record players. After this preamp (which became the "Gryphon Head Amp") was shown at the 1986 Consumer Electronics Show it developed sufficient interest in Japan to justify the formation of a sister company, which has become Gryphon Audio Designs. Gryphon Audio Designs became a formal company in 1985, and gradually the importing of audio components into Denmark by 2R Marketing was phased out until it ceased in 1993. Mr. Rasmussen owns a collection of master reel to reel tapes from the 1950s and 1960s. These tapes are played on a modified Studer A80 Reel to Reel tape deck to listen to products as they are being designed, in order to achieve a final product with the desired sound.

SERIES 4 : Ep4 Andreas Strehler watches, ellips6 simulators, Graham watches

Andreas Strehler

Andreas Strehler likes to describe himself as „a mere watchmaker“, although he has long since made a name for himself as a „createur“ of extraordinary timepieces. It all began in Frauenfeld in 1987 where he learned the profession of watchmaker. He then worked for Renaud et Papi where he was responsible for prototypes and developed and constructed complicated mechanisms. 1995 Andreas Strehler began working as a self-employed watchmaker restoring antique timepieces and started to develop his own watches. He also constructed movements for H.Moser & Cie, Harry Winston, Maurice Lacroix and Maitres du Temps. 2008 Andreas Strehler presented the Papillon, followed by the Cocon in 2012, examples of his philosophy of watch movements as living organisms. Their form also exemplifies a revival, and a new interpretation, of the traditional art of watchmaking.

Pierre Tantot - Ellip6 Simulation

ellip6 means quality. It is the choice or the professional drivers. The simulators, designed and built in France, are the result of extensive research and a pioneering expertise.

Eric Loth, Graham Watches UK

George Graham, born in 1673, master watchmaker who lived in Fleet Street in London. He created several inventions but never patented any of them. For example, he created the first stopwatch. He devised a mercury pendulum system for making clocks more accurate in very hot and very cold weather. He also invented the dead-beat escapement which made clocks more accurate in general and built the master clock for Greenwich Royal Observatory. The escapement he invented is today simply known as the Graham Escapement and still used in high-precision pendulum clocks. It is actually a predecessor to the Swiss anchor movement almost universally used in wristwatches.

The objective is clear: to maintain the greatest possible industrial autonomy and carry out the full product development cycle within the most efficient timescale. The seven ARMIN STROM calibres available today are manufactured in-house, including a tourbillon and an automatic, affirming this strategy’s success.

The man that is dressed in his clothes knows no limitations. He is a man of refined tastes, who likes dressing well, with a certain melancholic air but without losing his virility despite the important unisex influence. De Somavilla places essential importance to a “total outfit idea” in his collections, for which he also designs bags, shoes and jewellery. At the beginning of 2012 he shows his collection called MAELSTRØM at the Fall-Winter ’12 edition of Valencia Fashion Week and Move Seville. Based in London, though originally hailing from Logstor, Denmark, Jensen initially launched his eponymous menswear line immediately after graduating - with a Distinction - from Central Saint Martins, in 1999. Searching for new modes of expression, DeLaneau created eclectic, colourful and mesmerizing creations. Engaging the world’s expert gem setters and goldsmiths earned DeLaneau the title “The jeweller of watches”. Outstanding craftsmanship was combined with priceless materials to form highly exclusive jewellery designs.

Pierre Jacques

In autumn 2012 De Bethune opened its first store in the world in Geneva “because we have to be solidly based where we come from, in Switzerland. For us it was important to percolate the image of De Bethune from Geneva.” But following up by opening boutiques around the world is not something that Pierre Jacques has in mind. “A Manufacture’s role is not to open shops in ever more markets, but to produce watches that are as beautiful as possible! For this, we give free rein to the imagination of David Zanetta. He is our creative spirit, our in-house artist.”

Since then, the company has been run by CEO Philippe Dubois. Fine watchmaking movements with exemplary finishes are used to operate these new timepieces, with the constant desire to provide a clear, simple aesthetic appearance, served by a discrete movement that fully meets modern-day requirements. Similarly, in 2012 Badollet presented the Ivresse watch, which has the particularity of having been designed before its feasibility was studied, thus demonstrating the Firm's desire to offer timepieces that are functional and aesthetic rather than showy.

Albéniz Zúñiga [Barcelona]

Maite Albéniz Zúñiga born on September 4, 1990 in Vitoria-Gasteiz moved to Barcelona at 19 to train as a fashion designer at Felicidad Duce School, from which she graduated this year. During the course, she made ??different bespoke garments for private clients and, after completing her final Project at the end of her studies, in which she had already decided on men’s fashion, she opted to found her own brand, Albéniz. Albéniz, is the vision of the man of your dreams and it is he who, in this first staging, debuts. Her style is characterized by delicacy and pulchritude in the selection of fabrics and trimmings, causing both garments and accessories to flaunt both a glam and eccentric soul. COLLECTION - ANGEL Angel, is a men's collection for spring / summer 2014. My inspiration comes from singer Ray Charles, who, in his concerts, sported tailored suits made of bold and innovative fabrics. This is the main concept I develop in the collection. Start with a sober pattern and make it out of striking and exquisite fabrics. Regarding the line, I took Mick Jagger as a reference, creating a slim clean vertical silhouette. The color scheme is pastel greens, blues, pinks and yellows along with whites and golds, creating a lucid, attractive and fresh image. The gold thread embroidery inspired by matador costumes together with Swarovskis makes for a daring and sophisticated style. The sumptuous fabrics and trimmings create a unique style fusing different textures and completing the final impression than could be that of a Rock star.

Stepan Sarpaneva [Helsinki]

All Sarpaneva watches are designed by Stepan Sarpaneva himself. His ambition is to create unique design, fusing timeless elegance with unorthodox boldness. Sarpaneva first graduated from the Finnish School of Watchmaking and then moved to Switzerland to further his studies at WOSTEP. In 1994, he began work for several prestigious watchmakers including Piaget, Parmigiani, Vianney Halter and Christophe Claret. During those ten years in Switzerland, Sarpaneva specialised in the crafting of complicated timepieces.

Today Konstantin Chaykin runs his own manufacture and has registered over 10 patents for his innovative movements and inventions in general mechanics: a unique achievement for many century old manufacturers, not to speak of a young watchmaker. SERIES 4 : Ep14 - Korres, C .F.Bucherer

Dimitris Korres - Korres No.4

Maybe it's because the Korres' engine is the same 7.0-liter V8 out of a Chevrolet Corvette Z06, but I definitely get the sense designer Dimitris Korres – a Greek architect who thinks his country should have a supercar – here was channeling something like a C3 'Vette. It's not exactly modern-looking, but I guess it's classically aggressive

Sascha Moeri CARL BUCHERER

Carl F. Bucherer dates back to 1888, where an ambitious young man, a pioneer, opened up his first retail shop in Lucerne, selling watches and jewelry. He was so successful that he decided to start his own watch company, Bucherer Watches. They did well through the 20th century but were only sold in Bucherer stores. In 2001 the third generation owner of Bucherer decided to go international, changing the name of the brand from Bucherer to Carl F. Bucherer to honor his grandfather. It’s a brand with a huge tradition and history though it is quite new from an international market standpoint.

SERIES 4 : Ep15 - Cyrus, Alexis Reyna & Century

Laurent & Julien LeCamp

Cyrus is forging its own path by the founding cousins Laurent and Julien Lecamp. In 2010, they jointly launched this contemporary brand that is nonetheless rooted in Antiquity. In doing so, they opted to develop modern timepieces inspired by the traditional principles of Swiss watchmaking. They created models bearing a powerful aesthetic signature yet concealing a number of secrets visible only to the eye of their owner. Finally, the brand initially presented its most affordable and most high-end models, before inserting an intermediate collection between these two echelons.

Alexis Reyna [Barcelona]

Barcelona born, Alexis Reyna has been enormously influenced by the artistic professions of his parents. This, along with his discovery of the erotic film Emmanuelle was to bring about the flourishing of his love for art. This interest never waned during his time as a student at the French Lycée in Barcelona, nor during his stay in Paris where he composed several poems and musical pieces. In 1995, he began studying Economics at Barcelona University, it was during this time that a lover 20 years older than him allowed him to discover the world of fashion. Following a self-taught training period, he had the chance to work for Stylemode in Barcelona as well as for other brands as a designer. Very soon he created his first collections and worked alongside J. Lindeberg, Filippa K and later with M.I.A. After an untypically rich stint, he studied an MA at Central Saint Martins and worked in Asia for three years. Winner of the Fall/Winter 2012 Best Collection at Barcelona Fashion Week. Alexis Reyna has established himself in Barcelona from 2008 onwards. His latest collection, ‘The Country Code’, unveiled at the last Barcelona Fashion Week in January can be found at TOTEM, an international agency based in Paris

Philip Klingeberg, CENTURY WATCHES

Hans U. Klingenberg harboured a vision of creating a truly exceptional watch, thus laying the foundations for the present-day CENTURY sapphire collection. He dreamed of creating a timepiece that would unite eternal beauty and a technically perfect construction in total harmony. In 1959, he developed a brilliant invention based on the principle of creating a vacuum to ensure a totally water-, air- and dust-tight seal. This exclusive system lies at the heart of many designs and has been the object of numerous patents registered by CENTURY. He invented two unique construction systems, “Megalith” and “Monolith”, for producing scratch-proof sapphire cases, and combined these with the exclusive sealing system he had developed several years earlier. These two innovative constructions systems were patented worldwide and are used to this day in our workshops.

When Crevet began working for S.T. Dupont five years ago, the firm had lost money seven years in a row. SERIES 4 : Ep17 - H.Moser & Cie, Asger Jual Larsen, Ressence

Edouard Meylan, Moser & Cie

Edouard Meylan is an entrepreneur, in common with the company founder, Heinrich Moser. Today, H. Moser & Cie. is supported by Roger Nicholas Balsiger, Heinrich Moser’s great-grandson, as Honorary Chairman. The industrial and commercial development of the Schaffhausen region was close to the heart of Heinrich Moser, and H. Moser & Cie. plans to continue this support of the local community for generations to come.

Asger Juel Larsen

Asger Juel Larsen is a designer that marks and merits the adventurous and rule breaking reinvention of modern menswear. Hailing from Denmark but truely establishing his art in the UK, Asger graduated 'top of the class' at the London College of Fashion in 2009 with a BA Menswear Degree, Asger has since then conquered the masters at the same institution. His aesthetics have been consistently evolving during the academic time frame, illustrating ambition and flare in the imagination. And with placements alongside John Richmond and Burberry Prorsum included in the tapestry of his background, the platform and landscape for Asger's future collections is bright. His designs are an intoxicating medley of the past and future, taking inspiration from historical events and fusing it into a futuristic sci-fi sphere. The clash of textures play with ideas of masculine strength and vulnerability. Asger's aesthetics are both industrial and romantic, taking the gothic and androgynous to new levels of sophistication and depth."

Benoit Mintiens [Antwerpen]

Ressence is a Swiss-made independent watch manufacturer founded in 2009. It is owned and managed by Benoît Mintiens, an industrial designer located in Antwerpen, Belgium, who is responsible for the conceptualisation and design of the watches and associated marketing. The brand name is a neologism based on the words Renaissance and Essence

SERIES 4 : Ep18 - Michel Jordi, Henrik Vibskov, Arnold & Son

Michel Jordi

More than just an entrepreneur, Michel Jordi is a standout personality. This watchmaker’s son, born in 1948 in Grenchen studied marketing and management – first in Switzerland and thereafter in England, prior to spending some time in Japan at age 23. Upon his return to Switzerland in 1971, he created his first company and soon became known for his independent, iconoclastic spirit. One may indeed speak of a veritable “Jordi dynamic”, based on a constant determination to create and to pursue this path with the same ardour and authenticity. As the wise saying ascribed to Confucius expresses it: “The greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall”.

Henrik Vibskov

Words by Didder Rønlund I fell head over heels for all Henrik Vibskov's quirks and curious ideas - indeed, for the entire energy and atmosphere of the collection, inside Carlsberg's large bottling hall. And yet again, I fell for the man himself, and his stone face as he shuffled in, and took his bow. That is, what it is called, when the designers enter the podium, after the finale, and receive their applause. I saw men in many kinds of trousers and even more colours, girls who did not hold back, and everyone wearing the same odd shoes, which probably could achieve some health labelling. Some of Vibskov's distinctive hats, with a tall, round crown, actually cheered you up. Use them with anything, even with a nice fur coat, if you have one. A special addition to this - plus vests, jackets, backpacks, shirts, dresses and blouses in provocative congestion - was Henrik's sharp eye for commercial clothing, for stores and target groups, who neither want to own tailor-made suits or ties. You need a formidable talent to contain all that. And Henrik Vibskov has that talent.

Philippe Boven. ARNOLD & SON

The biography of inventive genius and British master watchmaker John Arnold and the history of the namesake watch company he founded in 1764 is well documented. After he presented a hand-made Minute Repeater watch as a gift to the then Monarch, King George III, he gained access to circles of wealthy people. After he won the ‘Longitude Act’ competition to find a reliable method for determining the longitude on the high seas, the company specialized in the manufacture of specialized marine chronometers in the 1770s. Arnold chronometers, also officially supplied to the British Navy, accompanied numerous famous British explorers including Captain James Cook, who discovered Australia among other places; Dr. Stanley Livingstone, who adventured through the African continent and George Vancouver, who founded the Western Canadian city bearing his name.

SERIES 4 : Ep19 - Dubey & Schaldenbrand, Umasan & Clerc

Jonatan Gil, Dubey & Schaldenbrand

Dubey & Schaldenbrand was founded in 1946 by Georges Dubey and René Schaldenbrand. Dubey’s love and devotion for his work, coupled with an unlimited talent and desire to reach new heights of perfection, made him a well-known master watchmaker and a prominent professor at the famous watchmaking school in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the Technicum. Dubey partnered with his friend, René Schaldenbrand, who was equally experienced and well known in the watch industry. Together they were pioneers in the in-dustry, inventors of the “índex mobile” for the modern day Split-Seconds Flyback Chronograph, and registered several international patents in the 1940’s, which helped shape the Swiss watch-making industry. The brand has been one of the jewels in the crown of the industry, and distinguished it-self in 2004 by becoming the first Swiss watch brand to receive the "Merit for Development of Watchmaking Tradition", a prize awarded by the prestigious International Institute of Promotion and Prestige. Sixty-five years later, the brand is getting a fresh lease on life with Jonatan Gil at the helm, the owner since 2009.

While Anja Umann went on to study Fashion Design to become a designer in the high end avant-garde world of fashion, working successfully for Strenesse, Wunderkind and most impressively Yohji Yamamoto in Paris and Tokyo – Sandra Umann decided to follow her passion for visual Art and Media and became a well known photographer (published in Vogue, Gala, Bunte and many more) working as an artistic/creative director for many forward thinking global projects. The brand UMASAN is much more than fashion, it is their world, dedicated towards all things esthetic, sustainable, vegan and mindful. “Our demand and at the same time our motivation was to create something new which goes far beyond the production of clothing and establishment of a fashion brand. As innovation in the fashion industry also means to correct luxury mistakes, to re-define collective values and to increase individual values. This was reason enough for us to found UMASAN in 2010.“
